“As stipulated by the Nigerian Constitution, our term of office will end next year.

“During this seven-year period, I served the government in several capacities and, under the direction of Mr. President, I represented our country in sensitive international engagements at high level. I have visited virtually every local government in Nigeria. I visited markets, factories, schools and farms. I have been in farming, mining and oil communities; in the Delta, in Kebbi, Enugu, Borno; Rivers, Plateau and Ondo; & in all other states of the federation, responsive to the diverse experiences and aspirations of our people.

“I visited our valiant troops in the North East and our brothers and sisters in the camps for the displaced. I have felt the pain and anguish of victims of violent conflicts, terrorist attacks, floods, fires and other disasters.

“I have been in the homes of many ordinary Nigerians in various parts of the country. I have met our techprenuers in Lagos, Edo and Kaduna, with our actors from Nollywood and Kannywood; with our musicians, from Lagos, Onitsha and Kano. And I’ve talked to small and large companies.

“I believe that the very reason Almighty God has given me these experiences, ideas and opportunities is that they should be used for our country and its great people.

“Therefore I declare today, with the utmost humility, my intention to stand for President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, on the platform of our great party, the All Progressives Congress.”
