According to him, being Nigeria’s Vice President since 2015 has given him an opportunity to understand the “diverse experiences and aspirations” of Nigerians.

“For the past seven years, I have served as Vice President to a true Nigerian patriot, servant of the nation in times of war and peace and a man of integrity, President Muhammadu Buhari.
“We have, together, weathered some of the toughest times in our nation’s history, but we have remained focused on securing the country, providing infrastructure and growing our economy.

“As stipulated by the Nigerian Constitution, our term of office will end next year.
“During this seven-year period, I served the government in several capacities and, under the direction of Mr. President, I represented our country in sensitive international engagements at high level. I have visited virtually every local government in Nigeria. I visited markets, factories, schools and farms. I have been in farming, mining and oil communities; in the Delta, in Kebbi, Enugu, Borno; Rivers, Plateau and Ondo; & in all other states of the federation, responsive to the diverse experiences and aspirations of our people.
“I visited our valiant troops in the North East and our brothers and sisters in the camps for the displaced. I have felt the pain and anguish of victims of violent conflicts, terrorist attacks, floods, fires and other disasters.
“I have been in the homes of many ordinary Nigerians in various parts of the country. I have met our techprenuers in Lagos, Edo and Kaduna, with our actors from Nollywood and Kannywood; with our musicians, from Lagos, Onitsha and Kano. And I’ve talked to small and large companies.

“I stood where they stood and I sat where they sat. I know their hopes, aspirations and fears; and I believe that within these hopes and aspirations are the seeds of the great Nigeria we all desire.
“I believe that the very reason Almighty God has given me these experiences, ideas and opportunities is that they should be used for our country and its great people.
“Therefore I declare today, with the utmost humility, my intention to stand for President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, on the platform of our great party, the All Progressives Congress.”

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has finally declared his intention to bid for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket to run for President.
He made the statement in a video he posted on his Facebook page on Monday, April 10.
