Driven by consumers’ desires for new experiences, innovative technologies and environmental impacts, travel is changing. Host Sarah Dandashy explores the technologies and logistics that power travel and the brands that create unforgettable experiences.

In this episode of Say Yes To Travel, Host Sarah dandashy speak with Juan Otero, Co-founder and CEO of Travala, one of the leading blockchain-based travel booking platforms offering 2,000,000+ properties in 230 countries with prices up to 40% cheaper than traditional booking sites. Dandashy and Otero have dug into Otero, Travala and blockchain careers, and what changes are brewing in the travel industry after COVID.

“We were the first to apply blockchain to a traditional online travel agency. “-Juan Otero

Otero’s career combines a strong combination of technology and travel. He even spent time working at Booking.com. He was CEO and founder of Restaurantes.com, the first online restaurant reservation service in Europe, named by Wired Magazine, one of the fastest growing digital companies in Europe in 2012. In 2015 he made his blockchain debut and got really interested in its impact on the travel industry.

“This is how we came up with the idea to fund Travala in 2017,” said Otero. “We were the first to apply blockchain to a traditional online travel agency. “

While Otero didn’t necessarily see a problem when he launched Travala, he understood the power of blockchain. The blockchain allows the travel industry to decentralize a large part of the processes in place. These processes include better pricing, more flexibility, and more payment options. Otero said this applied to other industries as well.

“Obviously, my experience in the travel industry made it quite clear to me that there was an opportunity there, not just to decentralize a lot of the processes or relationships between travel providers and travelers. , but to bring a more fair and transparent relationship to the different participants, ”said Otero. “… and to improve the overall booking experience with blockchain technology. “
