If you think flying sucks now, here’s the double-decker airplane seat

CBS News — Flying economy class for an extended period of time is an experience typically endured rather than enjoyed, but an airplane seat designer believes his design could revolutionize budget travel.

Alejandro Núñez Vicente’s Chaise Longue airplane seat concept began on a small scale last year, as a college project for the 21-year-old. A nomination for the 2021 Crystal Cabin Awards – one of the aviation industry’s biggest awards – soon followed, and the design received a flurry of online attention following a CNN Travel article. .

Since then, Núñez Vicente has been making waves in the world of aviation. He interrupted his master’s degree to pursue the project full-time. It is in talks with major airlines and seat manufacturers. He obtained significant investments that allowed the project to develop.

I can understand where this idea comes from. Alejandro Nuñez Vicente wanted to help people who can’t afford to fly all the time to get where they want or need to go with airline prices that are absolutely out of control right now. It’s certainly a worthy cause that needs some sort of innovative solution. But the execution here seems likely to cause far more harm than good, if we’re being honest.

My first thought when I saw this was that it might actually be good for legroom, which is my main concern when boarding a plane. However, any gain in legroom is more than offset negatively by looking someone’s asshole straight in the eye. One fart and you’re completely screwed.

And the more I think about it, how does that create even more seats on the plane? Raised seats only replace those that would be on the floor anyway, right? You’re just raising every other row and making things much clumsier. I’m sure I’m missing something, but these pictures don’t fully explain this concept.

All it will take is a Spirit or Frontier to try this and once they start raising money this idea from hell will be on every major airline within a year. We have to stop this before it starts. I’m sure Alejandro will come up with another invention that actually helps people, but it can’t come to fruition.
