As well as having to take regular coronavirus tests, you will not be allowed to see or talk to anyone while you are in isolation on your return to England.
So which countries, alongside Nigeria, are on England’s Red List? And how do I book a quarantine accommodation room for my return if I go to one of them? Here’s what we know.
What is England’s Red List and which countries are on it?
England’s Red List is a list of countries from which people from those nations are not allowed to enter Britain if they have been there in the last 10 days.
Currently, the countries on England’s red list are African nations. They are: Angola, Botswana, Eswaniti, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
This means that those hoping to holiday in England from one of these countries will not be able to do so as the Government tightens the rules to say only British or Irish nationals can enter, or if you have residency rights here . Vacationers from countries not on the red list can enter.
If you have been to a Red List country, been there in the past 10 days, are a UK or Irish national or have residency rights here and are returning to England, you will need to self-quarantine for 10 days in a quarantine accommodation and take multiple coronavirus tests.
If I have been to a red list country, how do I apply for quarantine accommodation?
You can book a quarantine hotel through the government Business travel management website . You can also telephone +44 (0)20 7429 9732. Make sure you do this before you return to England.
Such a move will cost one adult £2,285 for a room, while another adult will have to shell out £1,430. For a child aged 5-11 the cost is £325. Children under this age can be quarantined for free.
The package includes transportation from the hotel to your accommodation, all your meals, food and beverages, and it covers any Covid-19 tests you need to pass during your stay.
Those arriving in the UK directly from a Red List country can only do so through Heathrow Airport or Birmingham Airport.
If your flight is not direct, you can come via Heathrow Airport, Gatwick Airport, London City Airport, Birmingham Airport, Bristol Airport, Farnborough Airport or Biggin Hill Airport.
Also be aware that if you arrive in England at an unapproved point of entry or have not booked hotel quarantine room(s), you may be fined several thousand pounds.
